Simple self-supporting curved roof

Croquis sistema cubierta curvada autoportante simple - esquema

The simple self-supporting curved roof is composed of a self-supporting curved profile fixed directly on the main structure, without the need for a secondary structure.

The simple self-supporting curved roof is formed by a self-supporting curved profile, which serves both as a sealing element and as support for the actions to which it is subjected. Its main function is to provide a watertight and economical seal in canopies or in constructions that do not require thermal conditioning of the interior. The curvature of the corrugated profile is achieved by means of a series of equidistant embossings that, like small folds, give it the necessary curvature.

The self-supporting curved profile will comply with the mechanical requirements specified in the project and will also guarantee the water tightness of the roof. This self-supporting profile will be installed on the main structural structure, which is generally composed of metal, concrete or wooden frames. The main advantage of this system is the elimination of the secondary structure or purlins, since the support profile can reach spans of up to 22 meters between supports, as is the case of the INCO 155.3 profile. By dispensing with the secondary structure, the installation performance of the roof is considerably improved.

Range of lights

The support spacing of the curved roof is determined by the profile rib height. Each curved profile has a range of spans or support spacing for which it is the most efficient solution, according to the following table:

PROFILESCREW HEIGHT (mm)LIGHT RANGE (m)
INCO 44.4 Bending442 – 7
INCO 44.6 Curved442 – 7
INCO 70.4 Bending706 – 13
INCO 100.3 Bending1008 – 18
INCO 155.3 Bending15510 – 22

The main advantages of the simple self-supporting curved roof are:

  • Guaranteed tightness: The cover solution using a single curved piece ensures tightness.
  • High durability: The cover material can get a warranty of up to 30 years.
  • Good fire performance: All roofing materials can be classified as A1.
  • Zero maintenance: No maintenance required, which reduces long-term costs.
  • Speed of execution: The different layers of the cover are ready for installation, speeding up the process.
  • Efficient water evacuation: The water is evacuated to the outside of the vault.
  • Efficient transportation: The dimensions of the pieces adjust to conventional transportation on decks of up to 13 meters.
  • Aesthetic improvement: Provides a more attractive aesthetic finish compared to gable roofs.

Roof typology

(1) Indicate the length of the span of the arch, which is the greatest horizontal distance between the supports of the curved roofing.

(2) Plan-view dimension representing the full length of the curved roof measured perpendicular to the arch span.

(3) Specify the obstructed area under the canopy, in square meters, as a proportion of the total area of the front or side (transverse or longitudinal) façade, in order to calculate the obstruction factor. If it is a closed construction or there is no obstruction area, indicate 0 m².
