The Generalitat Valenciana has invested 3.3 million euros in the technical improvements of the Talleres Machado facilities in MetroValencia. These Talleres Machado facilities have a covered area of 12,000 m² and were put into service in 1994. Currently, they carry out repair and maintenance work on the 4,300 units that serve the metro lines.
The original roof was made up of very long skirts and a reduced edge profile, which caused water to enter the interior of the enclosure. A new wide-edged profile, the INCO 100.3 profile, has been refurbished on the roof to ensure proper drainage of rainwater and prevent water from entering the roof through longitudinal overlaps.
The length of the pieces has been maximized to guarantee the least number of transversal overlaps in the installation. In this way, pieces with lengths of up to 15,000 mm have been manufactured, thus generating a single transversal overlap. In addition, to reinforce the tightness, an adhesive sealing gasket has been arranged along the transverse overlap.
Since the roof is located 3.50 km from the coastline, the INCO 100.3 profile has been manufactured with a special coating for marine environments, HDX55 Z275 paint, which gives the roof guaranteed durability by the steel company of up to 30 years in a C3 environment (from 3 to 20 km).
